The Department of History at VKM College, is an academic institution with a legacy dating back to 1954. Our department is a cornerstone of the humanities at the college, offering both undergraduate and postgraduate programs. We take pride in our highly professional academic staff and our commitment to nurturing the love for history, critical thinking, and the study of the past. History is not just the study of the past; it is the key to understanding the present and shaping the future. Our department is dedicated to exploring the richness of history, from the dawn of human civilization to contemporary times.

Interdisciplinary projects and activities are promoted in the department through various efforts and collaborations. The department has been organizing seminars, workshops and lecture programs for students jointly with other departments of the college, i.e. Economics, AIHC, Geography, Sociology, Psychology, & Sanskrit and the departments of different institution/college.

The department with its club ‘Ittivrit’ plans to delve into vast spectrum of academic commitments. It is established to bring together students with good academic pursuit who have the ability to organize/ perform at the Expert Talks, Students’ Colloquiums and Competitions etc. The club is fully operated by the students under the mentorship of teachers.

The Students of the department publish e-magazine "Ittivrit"  every year. The articles are based on first-hand experience of students on diverse topics. They visit, document, photograph and write about historical monuments. This practice inculcates research habit and analytical writing skills among students.
